As per the World Health Organization’s study, the SARS-CoV, the first discovered in 2003 remained stable on a glass surface for up to 96 hours or four days. This means that it lasts more on glass than on plastic, considering that the virus can reportedly live on plastic for three days.
KAMI learned from The Ladders that immunologist Rudra Channappanavar, who studied the family of coronaviruses at the Health Science Center of the University of Tennessee, stated that these deadly viruses can live on surfaces for several days. As for smartphone screens, it can live for up to 96 hours. As per Gadgets, the virus can live on copper for just four hours. However, on cardboard, it can last there for up to eight hours.
It is recommended that the phone must be disinfected after going out in public. Putting the smartphone under quarantine would also help, however, since it is frequently used, disinfecting it afterward may be the best recourse as the virus can spread from the phone to other surfaces.
